The history of Murano Glass has deep and ancient roots, that go side by side with the history of Venice, and that share with it glorious moments and critical phases, every time overcome with success. Extraordinary is the fact that for more than 8 centuries, in this little island of the Venice Lagoon, the art of glass making has reached unique levels of elegance, technique and ability. No other glass making reality in the whole world is comparable to it: Murano is Glass and Glass is Murano.
GAMBARO & TAGLIAPIETRA srl MURANO GLASS STUDIO Glass Company is born as an evolution of a famous and historic Murano glass furnace, Vetreria Artistica Gambaro & Poggi Glass Company. It was founded in 1974 by Mario Gambaro and Bruno Poggi. The two brothers in law – Mario is married with Bruno’s sister – were born and grew up in Murano. As for all previous and present glass masters, their training was working with some of the most famous glass artists – in their case Archimede Seguso and Alfredo Barbini – or at some of the most important glass companies, as Seguso Vetri d’Arte, Vincenzo Nason and Barovier & Toso. Their company soon became popular for their refined products and their new stiles and shapes. Gambaro & Tagliapietra Glass Company was specially famous for the production of artistic glass objects which probably represent, together with chandeliers, the most famous and typical Murano Glass production: big and small traditional craftsmanship masterpieces – bowls, vases, plates, animals, candleholders, table lamps, carafes, drinking glasses, sculptures – or limited number collection pieces for a refined customer looking for a unique product.
He exalted the traditional Murano Glass techniques, and has experimented with new ones, to make its objects modern and in line with the times: contemporary and simple productions combined with traditional techniques as the “murrine” or the “gold leaf” in contrast to classic shapes in pastel colours with the “scavo techinique” or the simultaneous use of both gold and silver leaf on a black glass, and also “incalmo”, “baloton”, “sommerso” … These productions are realised with the intent of changing, renewing and propose ourselves to the customer in a unique and different way. Following this perspective of innovation, after the retirement of Mario, the furnace has now become Gambaro e Tagliapietra Srl Murano Glass Studio. His heirs and the young glass master Matteo Tagliapietra, are there to continue a 40 years old history, with a new innovative spirit and the same passion of everyday. Every piece is expertly made by hand, controlled, authenticated by master Matteo Tagliapietra’s signature engraved on it, and it comes with stickers and warranty certificates which give details of its quality and origin.
Gambaro & Tagliapietra Srl is associated to Consorzio Promovetro, which comprehends leading artisan companies, specialised in this traditional handmade production, and respecting the high quality Murano Glass standards. It is also licensee of the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark (code number 022), given by the Regione del Veneto only to the glass companies of the island of Murano.
